In terms of design, performance, and even weight, it's essentially an LMG. It's been a while since I last played the game, but I think mine (i.e. With the mods I applied) weighed close to 25lbs, which by far exceeds the weight of your typical assault rifle, which would be half that or less. I'd nitpick about how it can come close to the weight of several heavy weapons like the minigun, but that's a subject for another thread. The drum mag, definitely befitting of an LMG we well. The ammo type, generally popular with modern LMGs as well.
Why they decided to call it an AR, I have no idea.As a side note and matter of opinion, whenever the 'assault rifle' comes up, I can't help but think about how strange looking it is. I hate the default look of it, but with the vented barrel, drum mag, better stock, and a holo sight, I think it's alright. I ended up using it a ton on my rifleman/commando Sole Survivor, mainly because the performance is so solid, especially the recoil. That said, I wish the options for ARs, and weapon variety (weapons themselves, not the available mods) in general were better. I don't miss the FO3 assault rifle like a lot of people do, but some of the more modern looking weapons like the marksman carbine from NV are sorely missed in the base game for FO4.
'.Rumors that a legendary RU556 Assault Rifle has been spotted in The Commonwealth, apparently a ship from before the war was carrying an illegal protype.' It's highly customizable with over X attachments, features custom animations and sounds in 1st and 3rd person. It's also implemented into the Leveled Lists and spawns after you complete the ' Unfinished Deal' quest. If you want to add it by using the console, type: 'help RU556 4 weap'Have fun!- Many fixes, improvements - Material and textures improvements - New attachments - New Animations (1st and 3rd).

Yes, I guess I mean a texture replacer. 'cause the as far as I can see (haven't tried it) adds a new weapon?
Or am I just stoopid?Nope, the vanilla weapon still is there, but the Kalash gets integrated into the weapon lists for NPC's, meaning a much lower chance of seeing the vanilla weapon. Yeah, especially when you add a ton of other mod weapons. I don't see assault rifles that often anymore when fighting gunners. Which is both a good and bad thing. I actually kind of miss them.
Fallout 4 Best Assault Rifle Mods
Before I downloaded a mod that allowed me to craft and swap Legendary mods I had found a Kneecapper Assault Rifle. Nothing has saved me from deathclaws as much as that. The following one is very lore friendly: if you played FO3 you remeber the Chinese Assault Rifle for sure, a vanilla weapon. This mod have the advantage of beeing quite balanced: it's dmg output is slightly higher than the vanilla assault rifle, but it has a lot of recoil and it's very difficult to keep sustained fire at medium range. The vanilla assault rifle has almost no recoil, and stay pinned (unrealistically) to the target. Also its beatifull completly hand made textures don't obstruct half of the screen in first person. Many weapons in FO4 are so big that don't let you see that part of the screen and give an encumberance feel. And finally, implementing the weapon listing in soft ways with a script, you don't have to merge with other mods to have it appear in game. If you don't understand what i'm saying no problem, it means it won't conflict with anything and it doesn't require extra compatibility work even if you want to install other guns. I completely agree with you in that many weapons take up much too much of the screen. Like my awesome sledgehammer of Atom, which is cool and kicks ♥♥♥, but takes up like 1/3 of the screen, with a sparkling green glow at top of that.Bethesda seems just to sit back and wait for modders to do their job (and they have copyright on that too, you may have noticed).
